The Secret Nobody Tells You About
Every day, I come across people who are trying to lose weight in an effort to get healthier. It’s important to remember that being skinny doesn’t translate into being healthy. Unfortunately, there are so many misconceptions about what’s healthy and what’s not, that one can’t help but get confused!
In today’s day and age of social media, virtually anyone can be a health “expert” without any real training. AND, while I hate to admit it, even most doctors aren’t that well-versed in nutrition. With only one course on nutrition in all of medical school and residency, you can imagine that there is a lack of knowledge on this subject.
What most people don’t realize is that they’ve already got the low-down on what to do to lose weight. They just need to learn how to listen to their body. The weight gain, the inflammation, the symptoms you develop are all your body’s way of telling you to take notice of your health. So why are we so eager to listen to strangers rather than to ourselves?
You’ve tried diet after diet. You’re exercising. You’re reading all the latest health magazines and following all the social media experts telling you how to lose weight. You’re following all the advice that’s supposed to work for most people, but why isn’t it working for you? Or maybe, it’s not about the weight at all. Maybe your weight isn’t the issue but you struggle with migraines, depression, bloating, constipation, joint pain, eczema, or other symptoms.
Please remember, while most people are solely motivated by losing weight and looking good, that is only ONE component of reclaiming your health. You can spend the rest of your life dieting or taking medications to treat the symptoms of whatever it is that’s going on with you –or, you can learn to bio-hack your way to better health and well-being.
We’ve all heard the phrase, “Eat Less, Move More” and at some point, we’ve all been on one diet or another. Whether it’s the age-old formula of Calories In – Calories Out = Weight Loss (which is BS by the way), or the diet “du jour,” we know by now that there is no one diet plan that works for everybody. The foods we eat provide information to our brain and research shows that our food and lifestyle choices can actually up-regulate and downregulate the expression of certain genes.
This science of epigenetics suggests that our behavior can influence which one of our genes are turned on or off. This has been one of the biggest breakthroughs in modern medicine. Yet, most conventional medicine doctors never discuss it. I know, because I used to be one of them.
Changing our behavior is the single most important step we can take to prevent and reverse chronic disease. Take the time to invest in yourself and your health and unlock your personalized roadmap to look and feel your best. Optimize yourself, you deserve it!
